Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Questers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
